Trust Bank PLC has signed a participation agreement with Bangladesh Bank under the central bank’s Tk 41,000 crore refinancing package for priority sectors.

The agreement will enable Trust Bank to provide financing under the initiative, which is designed to channel affordable credit into productive areas of the economy.

Ahsan Zaman Chowdhury, managing director of Trust Bank PLC, and Md Abdul Mannan, director of the Supervisory Data Management and Analytics Department at Bangladesh Bank, signed the agreement at the central bank’s headquarters in Dhaka.

The refinancing package covers several areas considered important for economic activity and employment.

One of its objectives is to provide financing that can help restart factories that have suspended or closed operations.

The initiative is also designed to improve access to credit for cottage, micro, small and medium enterprises, commonly known as CMSMEs.

Agriculture is another area targeted by the programme, alongside measures intended to encourage greater diversification of Bangladesh’s exports.

The package also seeks to support the development of regional economic hubs and generate additional employment opportunities.

These objectives will be pursued through pre-finance and refinance facilities intended to make funding more affordable for eligible businesses and sectors.

Trust Bank said its participation would allow it to channel affordable credit into productive economic activities.

The bank expects the initiative to support businesses with growth potential while contributing to broader economic development.

Financing for CMSMEs and productive industries could also help businesses expand operations, maintain employment and make new investments.

Export diversification is another important component of the refinancing programme.

Bangladesh remains heavily dependent on a limited number of export industries, making the development of additional export-oriented sectors an important part of efforts to strengthen the economy.

Trust Bank said its involvement in the programme reflects its commitment to inclusive economic growth and employment generation.

The bank also expects the financing initiative to contribute to greater national economic resilience by directing funds towards sectors capable of generating production, exports and jobs.

Bangladesh Bank deputy governors Md Kabir Ahmed and Md Sarwar Hossain were present at the agreement-signing ceremony.

Md Zahurul Karim Chowdhury, head of treasury and NRB division at Trust Bank PLC, also attended along with officials from the two institutions.

Trust Bank’s participation expands the banking channels available for implementing Bangladesh Bank’s Tk 41,000 crore refinancing initiative and directing financing towards the programme’s targeted sectors.
